My Story

Leadership Coaching for High-Stakes Environments

The Success Architect Julie Goddard FInstLM

A decision not to blame—when blaming would’ve been easy.
A job offer I turned down, even though it looked like success.
A room full of leaders—each one carrying more than they show.

These aren’t headline moments, but they’ve shaped how I think, how I teach, and how I lead.

I’ve worked across sectors where pressure is constant, and clarity is rare. I’ve taught leadership, not just in theory, but in systems where trust, judgement, and presence are constantly tested. I’ve said yes to opportunities that stretched me—and no to roles that asked me to become someone I’m not.

The real shift came when I started making decisions that aligned not just with my goals, but with my integrity. I’ve walked away from leadership roles that looked impressive on paper yet didn’t match what I stand for. And I’ve stayed in rooms where pressure was real—because I knew I could help others lead without losing themselves.

Along the way, I’ve learned that leadership isn’t defined by confidence or charisma. It’s defined by how we move when we’re unsure, under pressure, or asked to lead through uncertainty.

That continues to guide how I work today, that still shapes how I lead, and how I work with others.

Not with a blueprint—just with clarity, and care for what leadership asks of us.

Leading with Purpose

Throughout my career, I have worked with leaders at every level—from emerging managers to senior executives—coaching them to thrive in high-stakes environments. I specialise in leadership coaching for high-stakes environments, helping leaders develop confidence, resilience, and the ability to perform under pressure.

I hold two master’s degrees—including one in Business and Organisational Psychology—and have lectured on leadership and resilience, offering perspective from both practice and research. I’m also a Fellow of The Institute of Leadership and a judge for their annual awards—contributions that reflect my ongoing commitment to thoughtful, values-led leadership.

My approach is rooted in positive psychology, strengths-based leadership, and real-world application—ensuring that leadership development isn’t just theory but practical, measurable, and designed for lasting impact.

Great leadership is about more than just strategy; it’s about building trust, fostering growth, and creating environments where people thrive and if something here resonates, we’re probably already on the same page.

Why I do what I do...

The quality of leadership directly impacts team retention, workplace culture, and the people at the heart of every organisation. In high-stakes environments, leadership isn’t just about strategy and operations—it’s about people, and the decisions leaders make every day don’t just affect outcomes—they affect lives.

I have seen the impact of both great leadership and leadership failure—and I know what’s at stake.

Early in my career, I worked in challenging schools, where leadership often made the difference between empowering students and communities—or leaving them behind. I saw firsthand how leaders who prioritised integrity, courage, and vision could transform environments, while those who led from fear or complacency allowed cultures of burnout, low morale, and disengagement to take root.

Later, as an Ofsted Inspector, I saw leadership under pressure from a different angle. I worked with schools, care providers, and corporate teams navigating regulation, reputation, and resistance.

I came to understand the psychology of leadership pressure—how it can sharpen or distort, elevate or unmoor. Why some leaders hold steady. And why others falter.

When my mother was diagnosed with early-onset dementia, I saw these dynamics play out again—this time, in the care system. My family searched for a home where leadership created dignity, safety, and person-led care. Some places got it right. Others didn’t. And leadership was always the difference.

Over the years, one truth has become impossible to ignore: pressure doesn’t just stress leaders—it distorts how they think, decide, and connect. I call this the Distortion Effect, and I’ve seen it derail even the most capable leaders.

That’s why I created the i3 Leadership Architecture™—to equip leaders with the clarity, connection, and courage to lead well, especially when it’s hard.

If you believe leadership should be better, let’s build it together.

Who we work with...

We partner with forward-thinking organisations and leaders in high-stakes environments—industries where leadership isn’t just about strategy but about making decisions under pressure, driving cultural change, and creating workplaces where people thrive.

Our clients include:

HR Directors and Heads of Learning & Development looking to strengthen leadership at every level, improve retention, and build a culture of trust and purpose.
Senior leaders and operational managers in regulated or high-pressure industries who need to lead with clarity, resilience, and integrity.
Mid-level managers transitioning into senior roles, equipping them with the skills to navigate complexity and drive meaningful change.

We also work with a select number of individual coaching clients who are ready to sharpen their leadership impact and step confidently into new challenges.

Whether you’re leading in healthcare, education, corporate, or mission-driven sectors, our leadership coaching for high-stakes environments will help you build resilient teams, foster trust, and lead with confidence—even under pressure.

If you’re committed to raising the standard of leadership in your organisation, let’s make it happen—together.

And beyond the resume?

I love white chocolate, am rather partial to a glass of Malbec on a Friday evening, and my favourite season is autumn. It’s no surprise that my best days tend to be in October—curled up by a log-burning stove, wine in hand, book nearby, dogs somewhere underfoot. That may be why the i3 Leadership autumn events are always my favourite.

I live on the outskirts of Birmingham with my wife Amira, our mysteriously aloof black cat Midnight, and our two Labradors—Inca (somewhat sneaky, yet mostly adorable) and Bracken (mischievous, muddy-pawed, and cheerfully unaware of personal space)

Life is rarely dull.

Beyond my love of crisp weather and good wine, my work centres on leadership development.

I’m a certified Marshall Goldsmith executive coach, a Business Psychologist, and a former senior leader who’s navigated complex, high-stakes systems. I’m also an accredited Strengths Profiler and a member of the Association for Coaching, where I adhere to their Global Code of Ethics.

At my core, I’m a lifelong learner. Every tool in the i3 Leadership® programme has been shaped by 16 years of lived leadership experience—tested in real-world environments, refined in practice, and built for leaders who want to make decisions they’ll be proud of.

Some lessons came easily. Others were hard-earned. My job now is to make sure you or your leaders don’t have to learn them the long way.
